Derna Emergency Mission

From September 9 to November 19, 2023, the Emergency Medicine and Support Center led a 72-day emergency response mission in the Eastern Region of Libya.

Activated two days before Storm Daniel struck, the mission aimed to mitigate the humanitarian catastrophe in Derna through rescue, medical aid, and relief distribution.

The Urgent Need for Action

The mission was launched proactively ahead of the disaster and executed through a coordinated national response.

Our teams worked in extreme conditions to rescue trapped individuals, recover victims, provide medical care, and support displaced families across the eastern region.

Our Emergency Response Goals

Our goal was to reduce suffering and restore dignity in affected communities. We deployed over 700 personnel, coordinated with international and local teams, and established field hospitals and relief routes to meet the urgent needs of those impacted by the floods.

The People Behind the Mission

Behind every successful operation were the men and women who showed up when Libya needed them most  doctors, nurses, paramedics, divers, logisticians, and volunteers. Working under extreme pressure and life-threatening conditions, these teams led rescue efforts, provided urgent medical care, handled the recovery and burial of victims, and delivered humanitarian aid to displaced families.

Their courage, discipline, and sense of duty were unmatched. Each member contributed to restoring hope and dignity in communities torn apart by disaster. The mission would not have been possible without their relentless dedication on the ground.

We believe in rapid, coordinated, and humane emergency response.

Together, we can build stronger systems, save more lives, and respond to future crises with even greater resilience.
