As part of the Emergency Medicine and Support Center’s training program in Washington D.C., participants recently met with Professor Mark Barbier from Georgetown University. Professor Barbier, Executive Director of the Global Health and Development Institute, brings over 25 years of experience in global health, epidemiology, and emergency management, having overseen health programs in more than 30 countries in collaboration with international organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF.
During the session, Professor Barbier delivered an insightful lecture on contemporary health challenges and the critical importance of coordinating health systems in the face of disasters and epidemics.
In the afternoon, the team conducted a field visit to DC Health and the Health Emergency Coordination Center (HECC) on Shannon Street in Washington D.C. These are prominent government centers responsible for planning and responding to health emergencies at the district level. Our trainees gained valuable insights into coordination mechanisms during health disasters, joint command systems, and rapid planning tools for crisis response.
