As part of the training visit program organized by the Emergency Medicine and Support Center in the United States, the trainees traveled this morning to the city of Marion, North Carolina, where they met with Mr. Will Keller, Director of Emergency Services in McDowell County. Mr. Keller provided a detailed overview of the county’s emergency structure and response strategies.

Later, participants attended a presentation by Mr. Jerry Lewis, a representative of the Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD), who discussed the vital role of civil society organizations in supporting relief and recovery efforts during disasters.

In the evening, the delegation visited the city of Old Fort for a field tour aimed at reviewing the city’s experience in responding to Hurricane Helen, which struck in September of last year, and the mechanisms adopted for post-disaster recovery.
