Thanks to God, and in line with international medical protocols, the Neonatal Unit at Al-Shamaliya Hospital in Bani Walid successfully provided specialized care for 10 premature newborns during August.
The cases included:
- 4 deliveries within the hospital
- 3 referrals from Bani Walid
- 2 referrals from Tarhuna
- 1 referral from Tripoli
The infants were born between 28 and 34 weeks of gestation, weighing between 1.0 kg and 1.7 kg. They suffered from common complications of prematurity, including:
- Respiratory distress due to underdeveloped lungs
- Severe jaundice
- Low birth weight
- Inability to feed independently
Their condition required advanced respiratory support, including mechanical ventilation (MV) and continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), in addition to surfactant therapy to improve lung function, all in line with global neonatal care standards.
After intensive care lasting from a few days up to 36 days, six infants achieved full stability, breathing and feeding independently, and were discharged home in good health. Follow-up reports confirm that all of them now enjoy excellent health and normal growth.
This achievement is the result of the dedicated efforts of a highly qualified medical and nursing team, working under the leadership of Dr. Omaima Abuzaid, Head of the Neonatal Unit.
Such successes remind us of the progress of medicine and the resilience of these tiny lives. We thank God for the blessing of health and extend our gratitude to our medical and nursing staff for their devotion and commitment to saving every precious life.
